The Perfect Bike Tour
Discover hidden streets and temples on the best cycling tour in Kyoto.
Service Description
This is, without a doubt, the best half-day cycling route in Kyoto. I've meticulously selected every path, every street, and every attraction to make sure you avoid the busy roads and get to experience a wide variety of beautiful shrines, temples, and authentic Kyoto life. We start our tour south of the downtown area, riding through some nice streets before quickly retreating to the Kamogawa River. We'll spend some leisurely time riding along here and soaking in the atmosphere — picture happy people sharing picnics, enjoying drinks, playing sports, all with the backdrop of Kyoto's charming architecture. You'll also see hundreds of cherry blossoms if you've come for the sakura season. Our next stop is an ancient shrine that escapes the tourist radar, surrounded by a beautiful park filled with Japanese maple trees. This shrine is famous among local Kyoto people, and is a popular place for festivals and events. After the shrine, we'll head towards the Philosophers Path, riding past universities along the way. Once we arrive, you'll park your bikes and wander along the path while browsing small shops selling street food and souvenirs, plus some lovely little cafes. While at the Philosopher's Path, we'll enter a beautiful temple famous for its lovely Zen garden, and featuring its own viewpoint. This temple is just outside the tourist trail, so it provides another nice escape from the crowds. We'll ride the entire length of the Philosopher's Path and then make our way back into the city, riding underneath the 2nd largest torii gate in the world. We'll continue through some quiet streets and follow a gorgeous canal that leads to a beautiful area lined with weeping willow trees. Eventually, we'll find ourselves back at the bike shop where we'll finish the journey.
