Overview

Tokyo is one of the most famous cities in the world, and easily one of the most impressive. It's constantly evolving, improving its infrastructure, and building new entertainment and lifestyle hubs. The Tokyo Metropolitan Area is home to over 37 million people, making it one of the largest cities on Earth. Despite this massive scale, the city is remarkably easy to traverse, supported by an intricate train system so efficient that the majority of residents don't own a car.

Tokyo contains cities within cities, with each area having its own unique charm and atmosphere. Its sheer size and wide variety makes it one of the most confusing places for foreign travellers planning a visit. And yet, this complexity is exactly what makes the city so rewarding to explore.

Seasons

Kyoto and Tokyo share similar seasonal differences. Peak tourism periods occur from late-March to early-April for the cherry blossoms, and from Mid-November to Mid-December for the autumn leaves. The main off-peak season occurs during summer, from June to August, which is also the rainy season for Japan. Despite the humidity and heat, summer is an amazing time to visit — the hotels are cheap, there are heaps of festivals, and the vibrant greenery makes the cityscapes and temples look even more captivating. If you're visiting during winter, keep in mind that many businesses close from Dec. 31st to Jan. 3rd.
